Peter Handke’s Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter (The Goalkeeper’s Fear of the Penalty) is read as a text that, in a special way, narratively implements the linguistic reflection of the 1970s. Five different readings are presented, each of which interprets The Goalkeeper in a different way as an illuminating key text for this period.
