Abstract

This article addresses the possibility and the limits of transgression (understood this term in a literary sense) when translating Children’s and Young People’s Literature. The emphasis is placed on the translator’s autonomy with regard to everything that is not exclusively inherent and derived from the text itself, and in the need to restate the professional independence of the translator from
whichever instances other than the text itself and its expressive needs.

Author Biography

Carlos Fortea, Universidad de Salamanca

Carlos Fortea nació en Madrid en 1963. Es profesor de las universidades de Salamanca y Complutense de Madrid y traductor literario con una labor de más de cien títulos, entre los que se cuentan obras de Thomas Bernhard, Günter Grass, Stefan Zweig, Alfred Döblin, E.T.A. Hoffmann y Eduard von Keyserling. Su traducción de la monumental biografía Kafka, de Reiner Stach (Acantilado, 2016) ha sido premiada con el XX Premio Ángel Crespo de traducción.

Es autor de las novelas juveniles Impresión bajo sospecha (Anaya, 2009), El diablo en Madrid (Anaya, 2012), El comendador de las sombras (Edebé, 2013) y A tumba abierta (Loqueleo Santillana, 2016). Los jugadores (Nocturna, 2015), finalista del Premio Espartaco de la Semana Negra de Gijón, es su primera novela para adultos, trayectoria que continúa en El mal y el tiempo (Nocturna, 2017).
