Most translators do not work in the area of literary translation, as a non-professional might think, but rather on translating technical texts. Literary and technical texts are fundamentally different. For this reason, a technical translator must have a different professional qualification. This will specially focus on how to use technical language along with its characteristics. In technical texts, the focus often times is on the exactness and precision of a statement rather than on the beauty of language. The purpose of this article is to identify the characteristics of German and Spanish technical language by taking the example of the technical article “Conceptos y tratamiento de la espondilolisis y espondilolistesis (1ª parte)”, so that the reader can gain an insight into translating medical texts from Spanish into German.
