Abstract

This paper gives a general overview of Turkish-German migration literature by analyzing the work of authors such as Güney Dal, Aysel Özak?n, Renan Demirkan, Alev Tekinay, Feridun Zaimo?lu, Zafer ?enocak, Yadé Kara and Emine Sevgi Özdamar. The concept of migration literature refers to a new form of writing which employs individualized narratives to give expression to the general processes of social transformation resulting from Turk-German migration. The ever-increasing number of publications which began in the seventies from authors whose work reflects the search among different forms of identity reaffirms interculturality as a theme as well as an aesthetic process within German-language literature. This article also shows that resulting from different narratives about migration, new metaphors have been created in order to express experiences related to migration. New metaphors reflecting the linguistic acculturation process as well for the intermediate state between the mother tongue and the foreign
language have come to the forefront. With these metaphors, native and foreign languages amalgamate into a new language and make possible a reflection on cultural character because these changes are not only concerned with learning a new language but also about the ability to translate cultural factors which are associated with this process as well as a new understanding of the world.
