Abstract

In language teaching field, there is a focus on the formal linguistic system knowledge, generally disconnected to the discourse production, context where the language is actually codified. In this article, empirical discourse analysis of written narrative texts produced by Spanish foreign language students and native speakers of Spanish shows the relevance of taking the discourse as teaching unit. According to this frame, formal language resources are analyzed as a possible actualization of the language system in a given communicative situation.


The analysis particularly identifies the use of past tense verbal morphology to express narrative discourse temporality in specific narrative contexts. Referential procedures of the narrator, in order to produce the discourse, are also taking into accounts

Author Biography

Beatriz Granda, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)

Doctora en Lingüística y Maestra en Lingüística Aplicada por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), imparte clases en el programa de español para extranjeros y en los programas de formación de profesores de español del Centro de Enseñanza para Extranjeros (CEPE) de la UNAM.

Sus principales áreas de investigación son: evaluación  y adquisición de segundas lenguas, expresión de tiempo y aspecto en el discurso narrativo y gramática pedagógica. Ha impartido cursos y presentado ponencias sobre estos temas  en diferentes instituciones de nivel superior, nacionales e internacionales. Ha publicado artículos sobre sus temas de investigación en libros y revistas especializadas. Es coautora de los libros de texto: Así hablamos  Intermedio 1, Dicho y hecho 5,  Tengo algo que contarte y Español para la vida cotidiana. Es autora  de diversos instrumentos de evaluación y certificación que se aplican en el CEPE
